About This Item

Used; Like New/Used; Like New. A scarce signed LP record album from the Austrian-born American composer of theater and film music, known for his scores to King Kong, Casablanca, Gone with the Wind and many other films. RCA Victor LPM 1170, signed and inscribed in blue ink to the upper left verso corner of the cover and dated 1957.  The recording consists of works composed by and performed by Max Steiner and his orchestra.  The lower left corner of cover perished, upper edge partially split, but in otherwise fine condition and with the LP untested but in apparently fine condition as well. Steiner remains uncommon across all signed formats, with this example only being the second we've handled.
Side One:

1 - OUT OF THE BLUE (Steiner-Eliscu) from the 1932 film "Bird of Paradise"
2 - UNFINISHED SONATA (Steiner) from the 1932 film "A Bill of Divorcement"
3 - JOSEPHINE (Steiner-Burton-Jason) from the 1933 film "Little Women"
4 - A STAR IS BORN (Steiner-Dick) from the 1937 film "A Star Is Born"
5 - LIFE OF EMILE ZOLA (Steiner) from the 1937 film "Life of Emile Zola"
6 - DARK VICTORY (Steiner) from the 1939 film "Dark Victory"

Side Two:

1 - AS LONG AS I LIVE (Steiner-Tobias) from the 1944 film "Saratoga Trunk"
2 - ADVENTURES OF DON JUAN (Steiner) from the 1948 film "Adventures of Don Juan"
3 - JOHNNY BELINDA (Steiner) from the 1948 film "Johnny Belinda"
4 - ONE WISH (Steiner-Tobias) from the 1955 film "Helen of Troy"
5 - WHILE YOU'RE AWAY (Steiner-Adams) from the 1955 film "The McConnell Story"
6 - CONSUELA (Steiner-David) from the 1955 film "The Last Command"

Steiner composed over 300 film scores with RKO Pictures and Warner Bros., and was nominated for 24 Academy Awards, winning three: The Informer (1935); Now, Voyager (1942); and Since You Went Away (1944). Besides his Oscar-winning scores, some of Steiner's popular works include King Kong (1933), Little Women (1933), Jezebel (1938), Casablanca (1942), The Searchers (1956), A Summer Place (1959), and Gone with the Wind (1939), the film score for which he is best known.
