London: The Porcupine Press, 1946. First British Edition. Hardcover. Very Good. First British edition. Signed by Joseph Mitchell on the front endpaper to the former owner in blue ink, inscribed, "For V.H. / Kindest regards / and best wishes / Joseph Mitchell / December 1969." 253 pp. Dark green cloth with gilt lettering. Very Good. No jacket. A few pages edges irregularly cut, with some occasional creasing. Gilt a bit rubbed. The author's best-known work, quite uncommon signed. Inscribed during Mitchell's long period of writer's block when he wrote nothing for The New Yorker.
