There, he was a grammar school teacher and administrator, and later worked for the Ministry of Education and Culture. In 1951, he began teaching at the Hebrew University. Beginning in 1962, he held offices of the Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities. A Talmud scholar, he won the Israel Prize for his book Ba'alei ha-Tosafot.
