About This Item

New York: John day Company, 1928. 1st Edition 1st Printing. Hardcover. Very Good/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. Covarrubias. The author, John Riddell was a book reviewer for Vanity Fair in the 20's and 30's. This book is dedicated for Frank Crowninshield, the editor and chief of Vanity Fair from 1914-1936. The forward reads in part, "This is a bumptious book, more full of sheer wango and utter pht! than you are likely to find in a doy's march in search or crumpets. Theses untutored memories of a senile reviewer adventuring amid last year's Best Sellers, recorded with a sarcomic pen in a Lexington Avenue doss-hose, what I mean to say, not a scone's throw from Broadway, where was I? Book is in very good condition . Spine is faded but still readable, corners are worn, top stain is still apparent and bottom and fore edge is untrimmed. Tipped in a note from the publisher about the untimely death of Miss Frances Newman, whose novel, DEAD LOVERS ARE FAITHFUL LOVERS, is parodied in these pages." No offense should be taken" Book is a wonderful FIRST EDITION, FIRST PRINTING collectible illustrated by the great artist Miguel Covarrubias.
