Despite the war and rise of fascism, Man the Measure offers an optimistic account of history as progress, charting the development of human institutions and improvement in moral conditions. Albert Einstein praised the book: "I will not feel that I have finished this book before having pondered every line it" (jacket). Octavo. Original black cloth, spine lettered in gilt on blue ground. With dust jacket. Very lightly shaken, very good in good jacket, rear fold split, other smaller splits to folds and chips at extremities.
