A triumph of medical and surgical reporting, which employs a variety of print techniques to illustrate the detailed statistics and case studies of disease, injury and deaths during the Civil War. Free of any library markings, a rarity for this set. All volumes firmly bound and fully intact; light to moderate amount of wear to edges, a few bumped/split corners; no markings to text/illustrations, tissue paper protection over all plates. Part 1, Volume 1: Medical History (1870 (presumed) first issue, prepared by J.J. Woodward): [3], 4-726, [5], 2-365pp. + 16 full page black and white lithograph maps.
