Patavii: Josephus Cominus , 1722. Two volumes bound in one. lxxii, 598 (misnumbered 998), (31), (2), 115, (3) pp. With frontis portrait of Celsus and title vignette. Early quarter calf over marbled boards, Good, heavy wear, boards nearly detached, edges showing, an early signature at title page obscured. Bookplate of Charles Atwood Kofoid, noted American zoologist at front paste down. "The De medicina is the oldest medical document after the Hippocratic writings. Written about AD 30, it remains the greatest medical treatise from ancient Rome, and the first Western history of medicine. Garrison and Morton, 20, Blake, NLM, pp. 82, 415; Wellcome, II, p.319, See also Waller, 1855. Quintus Serenius Sammonicus (d. 211) was physician to the Emperor Severus and was put to death by Caracalla. Allbutt called him 'a man of some attainments'.
