He was graduated from Harvard Phi Beta Kappa, and studied in Germany from 1955-56 as a Fulbright Scholar. Hersh is the author of Edward Kennedy-An Intimate Biography. His Bobby and J. Edgar: the historic face-off between the Kennedys and J. Edgar Hoover that transformed America is, according to Worldcat held in 811 libraries. He is also the author of The Shadow President: Ted Kennedy in Opposition, The Old Boys:The American Elite and the Origins of the CIA, The Mellon Family: A Fortune In History (Book of the Month Club selection, Fortune Brook Club selection), and The Education of Edward Kennedy . His articles have appeared in numerous publications including Esquire, The New York Times, The Washington Post and Huffington Post. Thomas Mellon (1813-1908), son of Andrew and Rebecca Mellon, emigrated from Northern Ireland, with his parents in 1818, and settled in western Pennsylvania. He attended Western University at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and made his home there. He married Sarah Jane Negley (1817-1909) in 1843. They had eight children, 1844-1860. Descendants listed lived in Pennsylvania and elsewhere. The history of big business unfolds in a definitive biography of the wealthiest of American families that profiles personalities as well as chronicling the growth of the Mellon Bank, Alcoa, Koppers, and the Gulf Company.
