Oxford: Printed for Private Circulation, 1918. Book. Good. Hardcover. 12mo - over 6¾ - 7¾" tall. Quarter grey-blue paper-covered boards with title in black on beige buckram spine. Condition: Good, with general light shelfwear and soiling to covers. Binding sound. Previous owners bookplate on front pastedown. 96pp. 8 b/w photographic plates. Loosely inserted is a letter from the author (the son of Octavius Pickard-Cambridge) to his aunt, written on Balliol College headed notepaper, presenting the book to her. Octavius Pickard-Cambridge FRS (3 November 1828 - 9 March 1917) was an English clergyman and zoologist. He was a keen arachnologist who described and named more than 900 species of spider. His son, Sir Arthur Wallace Pickard-Cambridge, FBA (20 January 1873 - 7 February 1952), and the author of this book, was a British classicist based at Balliol College Oxford for much of his career. He was one of the greatest authorities on the theatre of ancient Greece in the first half of the 20th century..
