London: Printed for Longman, Hurst, Rees, Orme, Brown, and Green, 1824. [Indian Colonial History] FIRST EDITION. Octavo (22 x 14cm), pp.[6] xii; 504 [4]. In a slightly later full calf binding for Glasgow Highschool, by CARRS & GOY of Glasgow (binder's label to verso of fly-leaf). with blind tooling to spine, as well as gilt ruling a a gilt school crest to boards. A new black morocco title label stamped in gilt to spine. All edges and endpapers marbled. Black ink prize inscription to a blank leaf tipped in ahead of the title page, awarded to William Wardrop Crawford in 1837-38. Armorial bookplate of Alastair Wardrop Euing Crawford to front pastedown. A large tear to fore-edge of title page, repaired some time ago with a square of thick paper to verso. A tear also to fore-edge of contents leaf. One leaf folded and not properly trimmed for edge-marbling (a binding / production fault). A little light spotting to first and final leaves, otherwise crisp and clean internally. Quite heavy wear to binding; upper hinge starting. Good.
