Five volumes, royal octavos. pages (2), xxxix, xxxvi, (2, blank), 374: (2), xxiii, 406, (2), xi: (2), xi, 526: (2), xxiv, 376: xxxiii, (3), 393. Profusely illustrated throughout with woodcut illustrations and vignettes. Copy number 319, of the limited edition of 750 sets, signed and numbered by Bernard Quaritch. Comprising British Birds (2 vols), Quadrupeds, Fables of Aesop and the Memoir. With a 4 page ALS, and a two page ALS tipped in to the first volume, from [... ...] to previous owner William Miller Christy, and with Christy's ownership signature to a preliminary blank. A bit of edge foxing to all volumes, and some light rubbing to extremities of binding. Original half brown morocco, gilt, gilt spines, each spine with ornaments derived from Bewick's original blocks. Very good.
