First limited edition; 6 1/2" x 9 1/2"; pp. [16], 5-263, [7]; original brown pictorial boards; cloth spine; rubbing to head and tail of spine; closed vertical split to tail of spine; front hinge cracked; fore-edge of half-title page with small nicks; archival tape to first free page; portrait frontis; numerous illustrations; pages mostly very clean; good condition. SIGNED and INSCRIBED by author on an "Author's Compliments" card affixed to the first free page. The book was printed in a very limited edition, for private circulation, of which this copy is #84. Braly was an early pioneer, who came to California, on the Oregon Trail, in the late 1840s for the Gold Rush. He settled in Fremont, later moved to Santa Clara, and finally ended up in Los Angeles. An autobiography/ history of early California life.
