About This Item

NY: Mentor Assn. Two G PBs ex-library. (1914 & 1915). Charles Dickens: master of Christmas revels by Hamilton W. Mabie. Dickens was the prophet of the under dog, advocate of . the waif, the neglected schoolboy, the half-starving and half-clothese men and women carried under by misfortune or weakness. He knew the slumbs, the workhouse, and the prison by heart. William Thackeray's wish was that he have no biographer. His daughter Lady Ritchie wrote a series of biographical introductions to his novels and other books which were recitals of the conditions under which the various books were written. Edge wear, pages loose but all present in these two magazinelike biographies. .
