About This Item
The third book of Ovid's 'Metamorphoses', translated into French by Mr. Du-Ryer. Printed in Amsterdam in 1718 by "Chez David Mortier Libraire". Book is in poor condition throughout, but entire. Binding is extremely shelf-worn, with front and back hinges cracking, and bits of exterior binding chipping away from the spine. Front and back endpapers have faded ink and pencil marks. Front pastedown has a bookplate attributed to "Anson Conger Goodyear" (see picture). No idea if it is authentic, or to what extent the book was associated with Goodyear. Small wormhole through first fifth of pages. Foxing throughout. Reprints of wood engravings scattered throughout. Text block surprisingly tight in binding, so that's a plus.
