About This Item

New York: (The Gilliss Press), 1921. First edition. Very good minus.. Commemorative publication to celebrate the New York institution's 50th anniversary, featuring addresses to the members of the board. Henry Watson Kent sent this copy to Eugene Meyer Jr., a prominent American financier and collector of Asian art; in 1916, the Metropolitan Museum of Art put on an exhibition of Meyer's and Charles Lang Freer's collection. Kent was a pioneer of the art of museum communication, and helped found the American Association of Museums. These two associations combine to form a snapshot of the philanthropic and logistical development of modern American museums. 11'' x 7.75''. Original blue wrappers. [8], 53, [3] pages. Typewritten letter to Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Meyer Jr. laid in, signed by Henry Watson Kent. Wrapper with some wear particularly to edges and light foxing, with slight loss to spine ends. Light curling and toning to outer edge of laid-in letter. Occasional toning to margins of leaves. Else clean and sound.
