About This Item

New York: Random House, n.d.. Fine. Hardcover : 44pp (including free e.p.s) : with a prologue by Edward R. Murrow, a synopsis of S.J. Perelman's adaptation of Jules Verne's classic, and cameo biographies of 47 stars in the cast : pictorial e.p.s : semi gloss pictorial boards : matinee ticket for Hoyts Esquire Theatre dated Saturday July 19 [1958] loosely inserted. Michael Todd's award winning, record breaking, star studded, cheerfully shallow extravaganza premiered in New York in 1956. By the time of Todd's death in a private plane crash, 18 months after the film had opened, it had grossed $33 million.

By November 1958, the film had earned worldwide rentals of $22 million including $4.6 million from overseas. The loosely inserted ticket contributed a few shillings to that colossal number.
