NY: Knopf, 1969. First edition, first prnt. Black and white illustrations. Inscribed by Updike on the front free endpage. "To William and Mary Ewert cheers and regards, John Updike." Tiny rub on topstain; dustjacket with spine ends just touched and beginning interior toning (not apparent on the outside). Near Fine condition in a Near Fine dustjacket with an archival cover. The inscriptees were one of Updike's fine press publishers and his wife. William B. Ewert published poets such as Carver, Hall, Heyen, Kinnell, Oates, Sarton, Simic. His Updike publications include In the Cemetery High Above Shillington, The Invasion of the Book Envelopes, Radiators, Rainbow, et al.. Inscribed by Author. First Edition. Hardcovers. Near Fine/Near Fine. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Association Copy.

Synopsis

John Updike was born in 1932 in Shillington, Pennsylvania; he attended Harvard College and the Ruskin School of Drawing and Fine Arts in Oxford, England.  From 1955 to 1957 he was a staff member of The New Yorker , to which he has contributed stories, essays, and poems.  He is the author of five novels and lives with his wife and four children in Ipswich, Massachusetts.
