London: Chapman and Hall, 1892. Book. Very Good. Hardcover. First Edition. 8vo. pp. viii, 300; original black-coated end papers. Publisher's light blue cloth with gilt lettering and gilt vignette of a swallow to the front board, good with slight generally wear, light water marking to top outer corners of boards. Contents good and tight, very small private bookplate, no inscriptions, minimal spotting to first and last few pages; a good to very good copy. (Charles Dixon was a prolific author with around 25 books, mostly on British Birds, published between 1880 -1909. He was for many years in business at Torquay, Devon, from where this book was written, but subsequently moved to London. Many of his books were illustrated by Charles Whymper, though this title is not illustrated. This is the first edition of one of his more important books, with a number of subsequent revised editions published.).
