About This Item
Paris: Ledentu, 1825. Nouvelle edition. Good. 8 volumes 12mo (15cm). 36 fine copperplate engraved plates. Charming, unsophisticated copy in original publisher's wraps, untrimmed. Paper labels. Edges worn, and many corners rounded; paper labels partly missing from first two volumes. Scattered moderate dampstaining and spots, yet very good condition overall.
Galland not only translated the Arabic text (which derived from an earlier Persian model, now lost), but he added a few stories of his own, including Alladin and his Magic Lamp, and Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves, both later Disneyfied into the American mainstream.

About Rodger Friedman Rare Book Studio
Rodger Friedman Rare Book Studio owes its name and its inspiration to the traditional Italian studio bibliografico. These small antiquarian bookshops, typically run by individuals who combine deep scholarship with a love of the printed object, remind us that underlying the words "study" and "studio" is the Latin term for zeal and devotion, studium. Since 1993, my goal has been to match discerning collectors with extraordinary books and manuscripts.
