About This Item

Cambridge, MA: Harvard University Press, 1990. First edition. Hardcover. Near Fine/Near Fine. 8vo. [9], viii-xiv, [5] 2-449, [2] pp. Bound in blue-green cloth with silver lettering on the spine. Walton is one of the most important analytic philosophers working in aesthetics and is best known for his pretense theory of representational art developed in this book, centered upon the idea that art is a kind of invitation to participate in a game of make-believe. An attractive copy of Walton's magnum opus, uncommon in collectible condition. A small discolored spot on the rear board; jacket has a little closed tear on its spine panel.
