About This Item

London: Tom Stacey, 1972. 1st ed. . Brown Cloth. Fine/Fine. 14 Cms x 22 Cms. 192 pp.; virtually pristine in similar jacket. Kenya based psychiatrist Carothers' position went through several changes during his career, at one point he had argued that the African brain was like that of lobotomised Europeans, but while abandoning much of this he continued to take brain 'differences' seriously and accepted the US race & IQ research uncritically. Subsequent critics have had much fun pulling him to pieces.
