About This Item
New York: The Black Sun Press, 1943. 44 pages. One of 500 copies printed on standard paper, from an edition limited to 610 copies. Profusely illustrated with reproductions of Ernst's surrealist collages, accompanied by Eluard's appropriately surrealist poems. This edition includes 3 new drawings on pink paper that were not included in the previous French language edition that was published in 1920. Here the text is in both English and French. Having been well protected by the scarce original pink dust jacket, the decorated binding is clean, bright, and tight, with lightly bumped lower corners; a little faint foxing on endpapers. Pages have minor uniform tanning--but much less than usually found, and the pages are still supple. The dust jacket has very light soiling but no chips or tears. A well-preserved copy of this uncommon book.. First English Language Edition. Hardcover. Very Good+/Very Good. Illus. by Max Ernst. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall. Book.
