About This Item
New York: Liveright Inc. Publishers, 1933. First Edition. Hardcover. First edition, first printing, first issue. One of the original 800 copies issued by Liveright as they went bankrupt; an addition 1,400 copies were withheld and later issued by Harcourt, Brace and Company. 213 pp. Bound in publisher's tan cloth, with spine stamped in black and silver. Near Fine with typical toning to spine, light wear. Lettering still fairly sharp. Lacking the dust jacket. Widely regarded as West's best novel, it offers a glimpse into the abyss-- the pointlessness of life, of humanity's inability to lessen its own suffering, of the artificiality of media-- that hasn't lost its power or humorousness despite the years. White 3.
