Hardback. 328pp. The 1951 American edition (3rd impression) of this classic historical novel about Lancashire witchcraft has been re-bound into a half calf binding with raised bands to spine, green labels to two spine compartment with gilt titles and gilt borders, and gilt decorative motif to the four remaining compartments, Green cloth to boards with gilt ruled borders and leather to corners. gilt to top ed. Marbled endpapers. Illustrated map (possibly the original endpaper?). Fine bindings of this title are extremely scarce. Stamped to map as bound by Morell, London. Leather is cracked to the front hinge but there is little movement in the binding. Some uneven discolouring or colour loss to the leather. Leather is surface scuffed to spine. Hint of dustiness to edges of the cloth. A clean, tight copy. Good+, sound copy . Hardback. 1951.
