About This Item
NY: Charles Scribner's Sons. Poor used copy of the original first editon with letter 'A' and the wartime notice of printing. This particular book is made interesting by the ink holographic inscription addition to the blank endpapers by Gladys Witten (McAllister) who was the hairdresser for Marilyn Monroe and a witness to the fact that she had bruises probably given to her by "that scumbag Joe Dimaggio" on her after the standing on the subway grate. In this book she has written her name and this info on the blank endpaper: "This book belongs to Gladys Witten Hairdresser 20th century Fox Studio 6358 Yucca Ave. Hollywood (28) Calif". She alos has written on the pastedown: " Gladyz McAllister 4311 Laurel Graove Ave Studio City, Calif SUI-8226 1944." Also there is a note in her handwriting from probably the 1960s or so about "Townspeople . etc. . Poor. Hardcover. 1945.
