Grosset & Dunlap Publishers, New York, 1941. First Edition. Hardcover (Original Cloth). Good Condition/Poor. Illustrator: Clayton Knight. Acknowledgements foreword and introduction by author, appendix. The text is illustrated with black-and-white line drawings and illustrations by Clayton Knight. Blue coloured cloth covered boards with dark blue coloured illustration and titles to the front panel and back strip.. Illustrated dustwrapper with black and white coloured titles to the front panel and back strip. Quoting from the front fold over panel blurb " ... Modern Flight tells in simple, interesting, easy-to-understand language how to fly, from the time the student first steps into an airplane until he solos ... and then on through advanced acrobatics. The numerous, simple diagrams and fascinating pictures by the country's foremost aviation illustrator, Clayton Knight, who is also a former U S Army flyer, make learning to fly as simple as driving an automobile." This book was put out on the cusp of the United States joining the World War II effort, and the need for pilots due to its incredible expanded aviation programme. The book is showing age and use  please see photograph. Rubbing, softening and fraying of the back strip edges; bumping, rubbing and fraying of the book corners. Rubbing and discolouration to the book edges with the panels showing patchy fading and a little sunning is also present. Browning with faint foxing to the text block edges with age toning of the pages. Offset tanning and foxing to the end pages. The dustwrapper is inexorable condition  again please see photograph. Chipping to the dustwrapper corners and to the top edge of the rear panel. Small tears and associated creasing to the lower edge of the front panel with the other edges having large tears with associated creasing and pieces missing. The back strip is missing 5 1/2 inches. Rubbing of the dust wrapper with sunning also present. Foxing to the rear dustwrapper panel and a few stains are also present. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. [4], V - IX, [1] 294 pages,.
