Oblong 8vo., pp. 247, portrait illustrations. -- Short oral histories of the following women: Mary Blackburn, Nora Bovee, Lola Frank, Evaleen Hulet George, Dorothy Hedrick, Barbara Patterson, Claire White, Frances Grabe, Margaret Olson, Ruth Otto, Virginia Reynolds, Dora Adams, Rosamund Baker, Hannah Bodle, Alberta Jackson, Vaudine Jirsa, Pat Jones, Anna Kamm, Edna Mae mcClaflin, Josephine Miller, Anna Nelson, Frances Roderick, Bertha "Bertie" Snider, and Lois Spiering. -- Cover bumped at bottom front corner with resulting diagonal creased (a few pages also lightly bumped but not creased). "After the WWII Heart Mountain Japanese Relocation Center between Cody and Powell, Wyoming, was closed, the U.S. government opened the area to homesteaders. Modern Pioneers is an oral history of twenty four of the women who came here in the late 1940's to build new lives and homes. Combating wind, rattlesnakes, and isolation as well as other hardships, these women overcame the obstacles and had what they called "interesting" experiences"-rear cover.
