Diehl's classic survey of 20th century painting from 1900 to the mid-1950s covers every major artist and art movement as well as including many lesser known artists and artists not associated with the world's art capitals. With over 100 full-color reproductions as well as 30 black & white line drawings, it is a treat for the eye and a useful reference work. 9 3/4 x 12 1/2", 220 pages with biographical notes and a bibliography. A tiny, quarter-inch tear in the red cloth cover on the lower edge of the front board, o/w both boards and spine appear free of damage and wear. The text shows previous owner's signature and an ink-stamped sales price in the upper corner of the front end page and, on page 202 a six-word note in ink in the margin next to Chagall's biographical note, o/w text is clean and unmarked, tight and square. The dustjacket shows minor wear at the edges, corners and spine ends, no significant tears or chipping, not price-clipped. Collectable.
