Penn's first published monograph, now recognized as a mid-century landmark among photobooks. "...Moments Preserved gathers Penn's vast variety of enthusiasms...Penn reinvented the classic daylight studio portrait for a more casual time, undercutting its formality but heightening its potential as a revealing performance" (Roth 101, pp. 158-159).
