Prague: Mánes, 1934. Octavo (19.2 × 13 cm). Original photomontage dust-wrapper over printed wrappers by Jindřich Štyrský; 147, [1] pp. Signed and inscribed by the author to Vlastimil Fiala. Very good. Nezval (1900-1958) was one of the most outstanding twentieth-century Czech poets, a leading light of Czech poetism and, later, surrealism, as well as an early member of the avant-garde group Devětsil. He was famous both for his energy as an organizer of the Czech avant-garde and for his prolific output of highly lyrical and associative verse. This copy was inscribed by Nezval during the German occupation to Vlastimil Fiala (1920-1993), a young poet, painter and art historian, who was evidently close to Nezval and later served as an editor of his unpublished works. Nezval reminisces about their acquaintance and, later, close friendship in "O knihách a autorech" (1957, p. 3). Vloemans 309.
