About This Item

The Monastery of Saint Catherine is located at the base of Mount Sinai and is one of the oldest Christian monasteries in the world. he Monastery of Saint Catherine in Sinai History and Guide. The immediate church community consists of Greek Orthodox monks who live, work, and pray within its walls. These spiritual, monks have a sense of connection to the story of the Hebrew Exodus and the events that surround these Hebrew tribes and the role that Moses played in bestowing Torah on the Hebrews. This momastery houses an ancient collection of icons, scripts, and books, some from the very earliest centuries of the Christian era. The monastery's long existence and its priceless virtually intact collections almost certainly related to its obscure location in the inhospitable landscape of south Sinai. This visitor's guide offers readers a glimpse into Biblical history and the legend, of hermits and pilgrims. The author, Jill Kamil, outlines the history of this monastery and ties into the martyrdom of Saint Catherine. The book pages are cover are clean and intact and unmarked. There is some minor signs of wear to the book cover and rubbing along the edges. There a rub spot on the book back cover that looks like there might have been a tiny yellow sticker there - less than an inch someone might have tried to remove. This a a somewhat hard to find publication.
