One is struck by the range of work conceived by the firm of Stanford White, including neo-classical, Beaux Arts, an assortment of revivals, etc. The common strain is the fusion of ornamental with a restraint; the firm seemed to be ever vigilante to the overarching form and line, with seldom the decoration coming across as fussy and surplusage. Cloth has some fading and wear. Spine labels somewhat worn.
