About This Item

Sydney: Sun Newspapers, 1928. The annual Ginger Meggs adventure book that became an Australian institution.

"Some magic human touch endears
The name of Ginger Meggs
He bears us backwards down the years
On sturdy freckled legs:
Against adversity we find
Him always fighting fair.
Men love him for the honest mind
Beneath the tousled hair."

[Poem from the frontispiece of this edition]

The comic strip was created by James C. Bancks and first appeared in 1921 in the Australian newspaper 'The Sun'. The main character, Ginger Meggs, is a mischievous and adventurous young boy with a distinctive shock of red hair who promoted the idea of the bold Australian larrikin. Quarto, original colour illustrated card covers, printed in colour throughout, 310 x 247 mm, 28 pp. some wear to spine with partially detached cover, internally very good, still a very good copy.
