New York: W. A. Townsend and Company, 1861. First Edition. Full Leather. Very Good binding. Quarto (10 1/2" x 8 1/4"); in the publisher's full brown morocco binding with an elaborate border stamped in blind to the upper and lower boards, and titling in gilt; raised bands with blind stamping in compartments and titling lettered in gilt; all edges gilt; marbled endpapers; there is the beginning of separation (about 1/2") at the top and bottom of the front gutter, though the boards are holding quite well; with 40 steel engravings, including the frontispiece and vignette title page, all protected with tissue guards; there are also vignette engravings on wood. Several leaves have minor off-setting from now removed leaves. ~~Overall, a nice copy of a handsome book. Beautifully illustrated excerpts from Cooper's writings. Very Good binding.
