Abstract: "Influenced by the diverse cultures of Canada, Israel and the U.S., Moshe Safdie's architecture displays a richly evolving tectonic and spatial sensibility. During several decades of practice, Safdie has designed public institutions, housing and mixed-use complexes, and developed designs for both existing urban districts and entirely new cities." "In volume one of this monograph, more than 30 of Safdie's projects are illustrated with spectacular photography, original design sketches and text. These works include his seminal Habitat project for Expo '67 in Montreal, Canada; the National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa; the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts; Library Square, Vancouver, Canada; Mamilla Center and Hebrew Union College, Jerusalem; the Skirball Museum and Cultural Center, Los Angeles; and urban designs for Montreal and Keur Farah Pahlavi, Senegal. Together they demonstrate the depth of Safdie's work, and an architectural vocabulary full of light and colour." "In his essay 'The Medium and Language of Architecture', Safdie discusses his architecture and influences. Each of the texts by authors Paul Goldberger, Peter G Rowe, Witold Rybczynski and Michael Sorking covers a different facet of Safdie's oeuvre." -- (Book Jacket)
