About This Item

London: Frederick Warne, n.d. [circa 1940s]. Reprint. Small octavo (16.5cm); glazed pictorial paper over boards, quarterbound in green cloth; 52pp. Comprehensive toning and foxing; boards and dustwrapper soiled; dustwrapper extremities and hinges chapped, with some chips to top edges; inner wrapper price-clipped with ownership signature; sticker on ffep; else Very Good.

This reprint of a 1918 edition of Kate Greenaway's Mother Goose is difficult to date. With the dustwrapper price-clipped and no identifying marks from the publisher, one must turn to the engraver's credit: Edmund Evans Ltd., with the address the firm used c.1940 to 1950. In any case, devotees of the renowned English illustrator will enjoy her beautifully illustrated Mother Goose melodies; all the classics are here, as well as some of the more obscure rhymes such as "Tell Tale Tit" and "Elsie Marley
