Swing grew up in Ohio, where he attended Miami University with Benjamin Harrison. He became a well-known Presbyterian preacher, and a confidant of President and Mrs. Lincoln. Tried for heresy, he resigned and started his own church. This book is a series of general essays on Intellectual Progress, Home, Beauty, etc., with religious undertones. 239 pp..
