About This Item

New York, New York, U.S.A.: Cuppless & Leon Company, 1911. First Edition, 2nd Printing . Hardcover. Fair/Fair. Book #11 (of 22 total) in the popular boy's series from the early 20th century featuring the adventures on land, sea, & air of 3 well-to-do young men. Under the pseudonym, "Clarence Young,'' author Howard Garis made his debut writing for the Stratemeyer Syndicate (his wife, Lillian, would assist on some of the books in the corresponding "Motor Girl" series). A hardcover 12mo bound in tan cloth stamped with pictorial design & lettered in black to front & spine, in 243 pages with ads for other series in rear. This is a true FIRST EDITION, Second Printing, from 1911, listing only to Self in front, to next book in rear. Condition is Fair, marred primarily by bleaching to the entire bottom 2"-3" of both boards & spine, with mild dampstaining to endpapers; interior text block not impacted. Moderate rubbing to extremities. Binding is strong & straight, pages only mildly tanned, heavier around edges, commensurate with age. Both hinges are intact. Numerous old ownership stamps dated 1933 to front endpapers; NO writing/underlining/highlighting; not ex-lib. The DJ is present, but only Fair, with paper loss at all corners & spine; worst is about 3" chunk missing from head of spine. Also, creasing, some pen to front cover over plane. But it's there! & nicely protected in new clear mylar cover Free! Our photos depict the Exact book you will receive, never "stock" images of books we don't actually have. Same day shipping on all orders received by 2 pm Weekdays (PST); later orders, weekends & holidays ship very next business day.
