About This Item

New York: The Macmillan Company, 1916. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good/No Jacket. 1st Printing FIRST PRINTING of the First Edition. This is the real first edition, not the Binford's & Mort reprint. This true first edition published by The Macmillan Company in New York (1916) is now somewhat uncommon. Original ribbed navy cloth with gilt lettering spine. The book has a few faint marks covers, minor rubbing tips corners, no foxing, tight binding, former owner bookplate on front pastedown (bookplate of Steve Fossett, renowned balloonist and explorer -- from his collection), no other marks or writing on any pages. The book measures 226mm tall x 140mm, and has 325 pages, 17 b/w plates. NOTE: this is 1916 first edition, published in New York in 1916. The Binfords and Mort Portland edition is often mistakenly listed as being published in 1916. That is incorrect. There is/was no Binfords and Mort edition of this book published before the 1950s. For some strange reason, the Portland publisher did not change the date and left 1916 in the book, thereby causing the confusion about the publishing date (however, the dust jacket for the Binfords' book includes ads on the back for books published for the first time in the 1950s). PHOTOS ARE OF THE ACTUAL BOOK BEING OFFERED.
