About This Item
San Francisco, CA North Point Press, 1981. Hardcover First Edition in this form (1981), unstated. Mrs. Bridge was first published in 1959 and Mr. Bridge was first published in 1969 by The Viking Press. EACH VOLUME SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR. Very Near Fine in Very Good+ Slipcase: The Books show only the most minute indications of use: a little rubbing to the panels, mainly apparent where the grey cloth backstrip meets the cloth panels; else flawless; the bindings are square and secure; the texts are clean. Free of creased or dog-eared pages in the text. Free of underlining, hi-lighting, notations, or marginalia. Free of any ownership names, dates, addresses, notations, inscriptions, stamps, plates, or labels. Handsome nearly-new copies, structurally sound and tightly bound, showing unobtrusive imperfections. Bright and clean. Corners sharp. Certainly unread; these volumes remain very close to 'As New'. The slipcase shows a little mild wear at the upper side of one of the openings; some faint toning, mild rubbing, a hint of soiling to the grey background field, mostly at the bottom edge, and a small square of sticker shadow at the upper corner of one of the panels. Attractive and intact. Not far from "As New". NOT a Remainder, Book-Club, or Ex-Library. 8vo. (8.65 x 6 x 2.35 inches). 367 + 246 pages. Language: English. Weight: 40.3 ounces. First Edition in this form (1981), unstated. Mrs. Bridge was first published in 1959 and Mr. Bridge was first published in 1969 by The Viking Press. Hardbacks in Slipcase. No DJs present. Both Mr. Bridge and Mrs. Bridge, which preceeded Mr. Bridge by ten years, are great books. Period. If you want character development, poetic moments, insight, a portrait of a certain time and place, these two books cannot be beat. The Bridges are petty, refined, bigoted, caring, aloof, devoted, rich, yet simple people. Evan S. Connell restores faith in the way things should be in good art. Connell takes innately dull material, and weaves intimately exciting portraits by what he focuses on, and how. These two books are aptly deserving of the appellation 'great'. SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR.
