Since that estimable and lamented magazine already had enough stories by August Derleth in its files, the byline of Stephen Grendon was used-which was not really a foolproof disguise for there were among the readers of Weird Tales some few who were familiar with my autobiographical novel, Evening in Spring, first published in 1941, and recognized the name of the narrator in that novel as the author of the stories by Stephen Grendon.
