Reviews
Anybody raised in the South with vaguely peculiar Aunts would appreciate this series. Our heroines are Patricia (?Mouse?) Hollowell and Mary Alice (?Sister?))Tate Sullivan Nachman Crane, who get in more trouble than anybody you have ever known. Sister, "the boss of the world" and the older of the two by five years (although on her last birthday she started counting backward) is six feet tall (she says five foot twelve) and built on a large scale. Patricia, a recently retired schoolteacher, is petite and short, so tiny that Sister is sure she has an eating problem. They are totally different in appearance, Mary Alice being olive skinned and dark-eyed originally, and Patricia having strawberry blond hair, a pale skin, and blue eyes. (As she comments, now she is gray and Sister is generally some shade of blond.) The sisters remain close, however; Sister has two daughters, Marilyn and Debbie, and Mouse has three children, two boys who live in Atlanta and a daughter, Haley, who is currently pregnant. She also has two spoiled pets, Woofer (a somewhat aged dog) and Muffin, (a cat inherited when her daughter went to Poland with her husband). Mary Alice has only an ancient cat, Bubba, who spends his life on a heating pad on the kitchen counter. Patricia also has a next-door neighbor and good friend, Mitzi, who with her spouse Arthur, has lived next door to Patricia and her husband Fred for 40 years. Mitzi's great claim to fame is that once, while in college, she "dirty boogied" with Elvis.
