Robinson directly on the title page; When a wealthy and powerful man is found dead at the entrance to a canyon believed to be the entrance to the Devil's Gate, the Sheriff of the small town of Cedar Cove is called in to investigate. The victim has many enemies and the Sheriff knows that someone is trying to make him look bad. He also knows that the town is a close-knit community and he doesn't want anyone to get hurt. The Sheriff turns to his friend, the town's librarian, for help. She tells him about a legend of the canyon and the Devil's Gate. The legend says that if you step through the gate, you will be possessed by the Devil and you will never be able to come back. The librarian tells the Sheriff that she has been keeping an eye on the gate and that it has been closed for years. The Sheriff is skeptical, but he decides to ask the town's pastor about it. The pastor tells him that the gate has been closed because the Devil is trying; 8vo; Signed by Author .
