CONDITION: Cover has slight wear on edges, very lightly soiled by use, 3" tear in front edge of spine, 1" tear in upper rear edge of spine; endpapers split at hinge but covers securely held by cloth mesh; text as new except plate 33 is creased and 4" tear, plate 34 has 1" tear and is loose from binding, plate 35 is loosening; no marks or writing. Scarlet publishers' cloth, with gilt titles and ornaments to cover and spine, in a pale turquoise blue publishers' dust-jacket. Ever so slightly bumped at spine tips and corners otherwise a a clean, bright, tight copy free of annotations or ownership inscriptions. Dust jacket is sunned and slightly soiled with some small closed tears (and two 3cm closed tears) on to the edges and minor loss to spine tips and corners. The binding on this copy is essentially shot although loosely holding together, however the interior pages, including the full-color engraved plates, are fine with only a few smudges in the margins and some offsetting from the facing plates. We have noticed no foxing. A large format production of a landmark book.
