New York/Oxford: Oxford University Press, 1987. Account of the only known case of captured Africans seizing control of the ship carrying them into slavery; in this case, the Spanish ship arrived at Montauk, where it was seized by an American naval vessel. The Africans were jailed as Spain claimed them as property while American & English abolitionists used the case to push for the natural right of all people to liberty. The case was decided in the American Supreme Court, with John Quincy Adams one of those arguing for the Africans. A film based on the book was released in 1997. Hardcover in jacket, as pictured; first edition (first printing), with full number string. Light wear to book, minor shelfwear; price-clipped jacket shws just a hint of edgewear.
