For eight years (from 1993 to 2001, the second-longest tenure of any FBI director since J. Edgar Hoover) Louis Freeh fought to turn the FBI around after the bloody standoff at Ruby Ridge and the conflagration at the Branch Davidian compound in Waco, Texas.
