About This Item
Hardcover. Good/Fair. Rosoman, L H. Cresset Press, 1937, first edition; original green cloth, title and author in silver on the spine; pictorial dust wrapper by Rosoman and with several line drawn plates in the text; slightly cocked, a little light fading along the edges on front and back covers and at the head and foot of the spine; neat gift/ownership inscription dated January 1938 on the front fly; the dust wrapper has been partially repaired but has some loss at the foot of the spine and along the hinge, being generally in a rather fragile state; internally clean and firm and with no foxing. ... ... ... Haldane, a Marxist and an extraordinary polymath, was renowned for his work on genetics particularly but also in many other fields of science and for putting himself at risk in experiments rather than requiring his assistants to do so. The aim of this wonderfully written book of fantastical short fables was to show that science could be even more astonishing and engrossing than magic. Please contact us for more detailed photographs of the book and its dust wrapper.
