Englewood Cliffs: Prentice-Hall, 1962. First Edition . Hardcover. Poor/No Jacket. FIRST PRINTING of First Edition. Original blue boards with black spine, gilt lettering spine, small gilt decoration cover. EX-LIBRARY with usual library marks on EPs and title page (mainly, a bunch of blacked-out marks on the verso of the title page), pocket pulled from rear EP, lacking the front free endpaper, LACKING the dust jacket. The book has a 1cm tear at the top of the spine covering, edge rubbing, "SALVAGE" stamped on the edges of the text block. All text pages and photos are present and are not marked with any library stamps or writing. Only the title page (and its verso) and the EPs and text block edges have library marks (and external spine number is present). No foxing, no staining, no torn text pages, solid binding. A decent copy for reading. The book measures 217mm tall x 138mm, and has 234 pages, 32 b/w photos, EP map, appendix of climbs & attempts on McKinley. The author in 1932 was a key member of the expedition that made the second ascent of Mt Mckinley and was the first to climb both the S & N peaks of the mountain. He was a ranger for 25 years & became superintendent of Mt McKinley Park & shares many related stories. PHOTOS ARE OF THE ACTUAL BOOK BEING OFFERED.
