About This Item

An oriental figure in a cape, the face partly obscured by the hood of the cape. Pen drawing in sepia on laid paper, mounted on board. Sheet size 210 x 151 mm. Monogrammed M.B. In very good condition, although the sheet is a little browned. Some annotations on the verso (the size with "WN" underlined in blue pencil, "d'Autrefois" in pencil, and the circled number 502 in chalk. The style seems to suggest mid- to late-19th century. This was formerly attributed to Marius Bauer, but comparison of the monogrammes causes doubt.
