Dublin, Ireland: John Archer, William Jones & Richard White , 1791. Tragedy about incest that Samuel Taylor Coleridge called "the most disgusting, detestable, vile composition that ever came from the hand of man", noted as the first play in the gothic tradition. The first edition was published 1768 in a addition of 50 copies, and again privately printed and distributed in small numbers 1781. CONDITION Unathorised though consented to Dublin edition. Nicely rebound with Tan leather spine and cloth bds, new eps, title page dated 1891 with no author mentioned, advertisement page for 1781 edition, and further advertisement for this edition stating author is a gentleman of note. Pp x [3] 5 - 102, small tear at top of title page has archivel repair to verso. Copy is bright and crisp with some atmospheric spotting, short tear with triangular loss at bottom of p 64 not effecting text.. 3rd Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.
